Mochena Borago's depositional history has to be linked with regional environmental archives to figure out the local and regional climate and morphological impacts on rockshelter deposits evolution. During the last field campaign test drillings were performed within Hobitcha Caldera located southeast of Mount Damota. This caldera builds the source region of Bisare River, which flows into rift valley Abaya Lake. In the area of Hobitcha Caldera, the river generated a swampy area as a basin infill position with continuous sedimentation, in which climatic proxies are expected.

First results of the test drilling BIS03 are now evaluated that show the potential for palaeoenvironmental studies and also tephra dating. The changing sedimentological features refer to varying environmental conditions. The next field campaign in February 2015 is just coming up and then we will perform the drilling into greater depths at the site. Tephra deposits within 8 metre depth cause for hope that a correlation of Bisare River and Mochena Borago deposits is possible.
