Overview - Cluster Z - Central Tasks
The proposed CRC will have an organisation that allows effective and transparent management for both scientific programmes and administrative/financial issues. The administrative core of Cluster Z will be a coordinator with a multilingual secretary and a pool of non-academic staff (e.g. web-master and student assistants). This administrative unit will work closely with the speaker and his/her deputy, elected by the assembly of all project-leaders (senior fellows) for 4 years (Z1).
As data storage and exchange is a key issue in interdisciplinary research projects, data management and presentation will be part of the centralised assignments. Besides geographical and attribute data, the database will include metadata, literature, file management, project staff and publications, as well as picture and video data. Furthermore, this includes presentation of spatial and thematic project data on standardised maps and the generation of on demand map sets for field investigations. GIS and remote sensing will be essential tools (Z2).
The Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) is the third centralised project (Z3). It will function as a platform and organisation structure for all graduate students of the CRC offering an interdisciplinary discussion, advanced educational seminars and help in all research questions concerning the PhD candidates. To do this, the IRTG, together with all project PIs of our CRC, will organise workshops, seminars, summer schools and colloquia for our PhD students to fully integrate them into the main research activities of the CRC and to train their soft skills.
