The traditional venue undergoing renovations, the American Geophysical Union held its annual Fall Meeting for the first time in its history not in San Francisco but in New Orleans, Louisiana. With a unique mix of more than 20,000 oral and poster presentations, it continues to be the premiere place for geoscientists to present their research, often not published yet; hear about cutting-edge science, and latest discoveries, trends and challenges in the field; attend sessions devoted to public affairs and science communication; and network with colleagues.
The Fall Meeting also offered an exhibit hall packed with exhibitors showcasing new and relevant research tools and services to meet any professional needs, and representatives of leading research institutions worldwide. For the third time, CRC 806 had been invited by the German Research Foundation (DFG) to present its projects at the “Research in Germany” booth. Attendees from all over the globe got interested in our “Out of Africa II” theme and scientific results; viewed the video clips elucidating CRC 806’s research profile and field work in Africa; and inquired about facilities and opportunities at the University of Cologne.
