Geoarchaeological fieldwork undertaken within the frame of our project D1 has its geographical focus on landscapes in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
While examining private archaeological collections, several new Upper Palaeolithic sites could be identified, some of which have yielded Aurignacian or Magdalenian assemblages. Our on-going fieldwork incorporates a range of methods ranging from prospection (field-walking), Earth Resistivity Tomography (ERT), and vibracorings.
The interdisciplinary approach aims to gain new insights into environmental conditions and human behaviour during OIS 3 and OIS 2.
