After extensive research, the site database of project E1 now comprises data of site location, raw material, faunal remains and artefacts of more than 1800 Late Upper Palaeolithic sites.
Calculations of settlement areas and regionally differentiated population densities using GIS-techniques, ethnographic parameters and on-site information have already been completed successfully for the different time periods: Early, Middle, Late Magdalenian, Epigravettian, and the Hamburgian.
Moreover, the methods and results have been presented at several conferences and workshops, most recently during the Magdalenian session of the XVIII INQUA-Congress in Bern, Switzerland 2011.
This year, project E1 is organizing a workshop near Cologne in cooperation with project D1. The meeting will deal with topics of the Upper to Late Palaeolithic transition in Western Central Europe and palaeodemography.
