Dr. Mohammed Umer

It is with great sadness that we must announce the sudden and unexpected death of our dear friend and trusted colleague, Dr. Mohammed Umer (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia), who passed away last Sun (27th November 2011) at the age of 53, whilst in the field in Afar-Region. Dr. Mohammed Umer was a key player in our CRC-project in Ethiopia. His professional support and expertise in the field, but most of all his valued friendship, will be sorely missed by all those to have worked with him over the last years. Only last week, we were sitting together in Addis Ababa, embroiled in enthusiastic discussions, and making plans for the next steps of our joint studies. His death comes as a huge and painful loss to us all. Mohammed Umer leaves behind his wife Hawsa and his two children, Yasin and Ilham.
