International Science Meeting in
Cologne, 06 – 09 April 2016
Organized by the Collaborative Research Centre 806
“Our Way to Europe: Culture-Environment Interaction and Human Mobility in the Late Quaternary”
Aims and Scope
The meeting Inside-Outside will bring together international experts from different fields of research, such as geology, geography, geophysics and archaeology. They will present their respective research regarding caves, rock-shelters and open-air sites and will discuss various aspects of data integration.
The meeting starts with two scientific sessions on geoarchaeological and geochronological methods providing the base of reliable correlations between caves and open-air sites in time and space. Building on geoscientific data, the third session has a focus on archaeological case studies, which will shed light on the dynamics behind pattern of land-use including the seasonal mobility of Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers in regions where caves and rock-shelters are found next to open-air sites. Finally the fourth session is intended to explore analytical approaches for data integration and extrapolation of regional findings to broader spatial scale.
