During three weeks of March, a second drilling campaign in Laguna de Medina, Cádiz, Southern Spain, was organised for the C3 Project. In September 2014, our 1st campaign ended at a field depth of 22.29 m and now, we tried to reach sediments of the beginning of the lake.
Arriving at the Laguna, we could directly notice the influence of seasonality on the lake. Last September, Medina had a water depth of 1.7 m. Now, its water depth was 3.2 m.
Unfortunately, the platform coring didn't work as expected. We had a lot of technical problems, probably because of the pressure of sediment on the 'Kolbenseil' in this sediment depth.
The result after three weeks: We tried to core 12 times of which 9 failed. But we came 4.5 m deeper than in September and took many gravity cores.
