With about 25,000 participants, the annual convention of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in San Francisco is the world’s largest geoscientific conference. Once again, the DFG’s “Research in Germany” initiative was present at the accompanying exhibition with a prominent and generously sized booth, only second to NASA and Google, from 11–15/12/2016. It was shared by three German clusters of excellence – CliSAP, MARUM and The Future Ocean; two non-university research institutions, GEOMAR and GFZ; and a few Priority Programs, Research Training Groups and Collaborative Research Centers which provided a comprehensive insight into the geosciences research landscape in Germany.
For the second time, CRC 806 has been invited by DFG to present its geoscientific and archaeological projects, as well as the University of Cologne’s graduate programmes. Conference participants from all over the globe got attracted by the displays, flyers or giveaways, and watched the video clips explaining our “Out of Africa II” agenda and field work in the Sahara. Lively discussions included questions on our scientific results, possibilities for PhD or postdoc positions, and research cooperation.
