After moving from the “Rundbau” into the newly built laboratories in the basement of the “Südbau”, the luminescence laboratory finally restarted operations.
The facilities for sample preparation and installing measuring equipment have been vastly expanded, now allowing concurrent processing of a greater number of samples. First TL dates of heated lithic artefacts have recently been completed, thus widening the spectrum of applications provided by the Cologne laboratory and covering the chronometrical dating of both geological and archaeological archives by the same method.
